Student Veterans and Tobacco Cessation Program

Developed by Project UNIFORM in CYAN’s Military Program, the Student Veterans and Tobacco Cessation Program is a self-paced, online webinar aimed at educating college health professionals that are interested in offering tobacco cessation services to Student Veterans. It consists of three webinars focused on military basics, tobacco use in the military, opportunities to administer tobacco cessation, and strategies for executing tobacco cessation services. A certificate of participation is available upon request.

Tobacco Smoking Cessation in Adults, Including Pregnant Women: Behavioral and Pharmacotherapy Interventions

The U.S. Preventative Services Task Force offers evidence-based recommendations for identifying which patients should receive interventions for cessation.  Additionally, they provide recommendations and an updated review of the available pharmacotherapy and behavioral interventions for tobacco cessation.  Along with information for healthcare professionals, their website includes simplified fact sheets for consumers that explain their recommendations in a way that is easy to understand.

Becoming a Tobacco Cessation Provider Under PA Medicaid

The online activity below will assist professionals with interactive skill-building training in tobacco education, effective brief intervention strategies, and referral to resources. This webinar is one step in becoming recognized by the Department of Human Services as a tobacco cessation health care provider.  After completion of this webinar you are capable of making referrals.  A registry application and completion of a recognized tobacco cessation training program must be completed in addition to this webinar for provider recognition including the ability to bill for tobacco cessation services. We are working closely with our partners at the Department of Health to be able to post a  complete “How To” guide here in the very near future.

Purdue University – Pharmacy CE Courses

The Office of Continuing Education at Purdue University offers two continuing education programs focused on behavioral counseling, pharmacotherapy, and how to implement tobacco cessation into the curriculum at a pharmacy school. The website requires you to sign-up for a free account and then enter an enrollment code.

Smoking Cessation for Pregnancy and Beyond: A Virtual Clinic

This is a free, interactive, web-based continuing education program geared at helping health care professionals sharpen their skills at assisting pregnant women to quit smoking.  It offers up to 5.25 hours of credits as you explore this unique virtual clinic developed by Dartmouth Medical School.  The program consists of simulated patients, case discussions, counseling demonstrations, video interviews, and lectures.

Smoking Cessation Leadership Center

The Smoking Cessation Leadership Center is a national program sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation aimed at increasing tobacco cessation rates.  Its website includes a growing list of webinars geared at tobacco cessation that offer CME/CE credit upon completion. The CME/CE credits are managed through the University of California Schools of Medicine.

The Pharmacist’s Letter

The Pharmacist’s Letter offers CE credit in a broad spectrum of clinical categories including tobacco cessation.  A CE identification number is required to get credit for the material which can be easily obtained by completing a short form which can be found on the CE credit page.

Motivational Interviewing

The University of Massachusetts offers a variety of different online courses on motivational interviewing which upon completion awards CE credits as well as a certificate. The modules are divided into sections separated into introduction, knowledge building, advanced knowledge, and maintaining your skills. The training also includes 1-1 coaching sessions on the phone and 1-1 practice session with acting patients. The course does require a fee to be paid via credit card.
