Meet Your Advisory Board

Amanda Schwenk, Recording Secretary
University of Pittsburgh, PharmD Candidate 2019

1. Why did you decide to run to be a part of the Student Advisory Board?

I have been wanting to be more involved in PPA and thought joining the advisory board on a state level would be the perfect opportunity to learn more about advocacy. Learning as much as possible as a student and taking advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow in our skills as pharmacists are important for getting the most out of our education.

2. What are you most looking forward to accomplishing during your term?

I am most looking forward to promoting membership to new students entering pharmacy school and graduating students entering the job field. I would love to brainstorm with the new advisory board to devise and implement new and exciting opportunities for students to be enthusiastic about advocating.

3. Where do you see yourself in five years?

I have really been enjoying my time as an intern at WalMart Pharmacy, so in five years I see myself working in the community setting. I will hopefully be saving up money to work as a medical missionary on the Mercy Ships, a fleet of hospital ships that provide medical care to the less fortunate along the coasts of Africa.

4. What activities are you currently involved in?

I am most active with my on-campus church group, h2o church. Within the School of Pharmacy, I am the secretary of our chapter of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists and an active member of the Student National Pharmacists Association.

5. What do you do in your free time?

I really enjoy almost any outdoor activity- hiking, biking, running, kayaking, skiing, etc. Taking life one step at a time and enjoying every moment is very important to me too, whether I am lounging on the beach or listening to the rain patter against a window. I also love hanging out with my family and scooping up all the time I can with my new niece!

6. If you could have dinner with anyone (alive/dead, real/fake, ect.) who would it be and why?

If I could have dinner with anyone, I would love to meet Daniel the Hebrew prophet. I recently completed a bible study about him and his unshakable faith is beyond inspiring. Speaking with him about his prophecies and experiences would be amazing.
