Preparing your Pharmacy to be a Diabetes

Self-Management Education Site (DSME)

Friday, January 26, 2017

These sessions are open to any pharmacy and their program coordinator pharmacist interested in applying for DSME accreditation through the AADE.

However, compensation for the actual site application and the pilot program was limited to those who first committed. PPA is still accepting pharmacies on a wait list/stand by. Pharmacies can also go through the program on their own, benefit from the guidance, and pay the application fee directly or at least be ready should a spot in the original group open up.

Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians interact with other healthcare professionals on a daily basis.  As they become more involved in patient care services such as medication therapy and disease state management, interprofessional collaboration is critical.  This program will help pharmacists and pharmacy technicians identify important elements of interprofessional collaboration and learn how to improve current interprofessional collaboration practices.

CE: Hitting the Sweet Spot: Motivational Interviewing with Diabetes Patients - Introductory Level

Karen Hoang, PharmD, Clinical Pharmacy Specialist, MTM Services, UPMC Health Plan

Motivational interviewing on its own can be challenging to understand and even more difficult to employ. Throw in a complex disease state such as diabetes and you can quickly find your abilities tested. This CE presentation will discuss the application of motivational interviewing principles specifically in diabetes patients and will give attendees the opportunity to apply their motivational interviewing strategies to diabetes patient case examples.
