Three new classes of medications with novel mechanisms of action will be discussed, including the SGLT2 inhibitors, the PAR1 inhibitors, and the PCSK9 inhibitors. All of these classes either have new medications that were approved within the last year or are in the drug pipeline. The mechanisms of action will be discussed, as well as a prediction of where they will fit in therapy.

Title: Three Novel Drug Mechanisms: Where Do They Fit?

Program Objectives for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians:

1. Identify the mechanism of action of three novel drug classes: SGLT2 inhibitors, PAR-1 inhibitors, and PCSK9 inhibitors.
2. Compare and contrast the similarities and differences between these novel agents and other agents used for similar clinical indications.
3. Predict how these new medications will be utilized in treatment guidelines and clinical practice.
