Title: Contemporary Issues in Managing Pain, Agitation, and Delirium in the Intensive Care Unit

   

This program will address issues surrounding managing pain, agitation and delirium in the critically ill patient. Various evidence-based strategies for managing these problems will be discussed and applied to patient cases.

Program Objectives:
At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:
1. Describe effects of lighter sedation, sedation protocols, and daily interruptions on outcomes in ICU patients.
2. Compare the use of benzodiazepines and non-benzodiazepines and related outcomes.
3. Develop strategies to prevent and treat delirium in ICU patients.
