Title: Clinically Significant Drug Interactions: When Not to Roll the Dice
This is a series of real-life, de-identified patient cases, which highlight clinically relevant and significant drug-drug interactions. A variety of topics are covered, including 1) pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic interactions leading to QT prolongation, 2) important interactions with the novel oral anticoagulants, 3) adverse effects results from xanthine oxidase inhibition, 4) pharmacodynamic interactions leading to life-threatening hyperkalemia and 5) statin-induced rhabdomyolysis involving a novel mechanism with drug transport proteins in the liver. The focus throughout the presentation is on identifying the most significant drug interactions, predicting their clinical effects and identifying practical management strategies to optimize patient safety.

2. Given a patient case, identify any clinically significant drug-drug interactions.
3. Stratify the severity and potential outcomes of a drug-drug interaction based on a patient scenario.
4. Develop a plan to manage a drug-drug interaction, including safe therapeutic alternatives and monitoring.
