Title: Community Pharmacists Bridging the Connection Between Patients and Treatment for Chronic Hepatitis C

This continuing education program will review the pertinent information needed for community pharmacists to dispense and counsel patients on current and emerging treatment options for Chronic Hepatitis C infection. In addition to an overview of treatment options, patient specific factors regarding adherence and cost will be emphasized along with options in the community to help remove burdens of high cost and complicated medications. A summary of screening options available to community pharmacists will also be provided.


Ashley Firm, PharmD, Clinical Pharmacy Coordinator, Asti's South Hills Pharmacy

Ashley Firm is a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and completed a community practice residency with the University of Georgia and Barney's Pharmacy. Dr Firm is currently the clinical pharmacy coordinator for Asti's South Hills Pharmacy in the Mount Lebanon neighborhood of Pittsburgh. As the clinical coordinator, Dr Firm manages the medication synchronization program, MTM cases and patient education.


Target Audience: All pharmacists

CE Credit: 1 Contact Hour (0.1 CEUs)

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to
1. Summarize new treatment options for Chronic Hepatitis C infections
2. Recommend a treatment regimen based on patient specific factors
3. Compare cost and efficacy of treatment regimens
