Title: Pharmacy DIR Fees; A National Landscape

DIR stands for “direct and indirect remuneration” and are also referred to as “network to plan rebates.” DIR was initially coined by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) related to the Medicare Part D benefit to address price concessions (e.g. drug manufacturer rebate). Essentially, rates are established in which corresponding fees are often taken out of pharmacy reimbursements. Unfortunately, these fees can be very confusing and have a history of hurting independent and/or retail pharmacies’ income. PPA has partnered with the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) to put together a webinar that covers everything pharmacists need to know about DIR fees and how to manage them!


Please note this presentation will not include contracting or business advice on third party or insurance payer contracts, including acceptance or rejection, as such would be in violation of antitrust laws.  The presentation and all discussions and questions will be conducted in accordance with antitrust laws and PPA’s antitrust policy.

 
Speakers:


Ronna Hauser, Vice President Pharmacy Affairs, NCPA

Ronna B. Hauser, PharmD, is Vice President of Pharmacy Affairs for the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA). In this capacity Ronna is responsible for the association’s professional affairs, public policy and regulatory initiatives. Prior to NCPA, Ronna was the Director of Pharmacy Advocacy and Policy at the National Association of Chain Drug Stores, where she advocated the value of pharmacy to federal and state legislators, regulators, and other policymakers. She also works as a licensed community pharmacist. 

  Susan Pilch, Vice President Policy and Regulatory Affairs, NCPA
Susan Pilch is the Vice President of Policy and Regulatory Affairs for the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA). Prior to this position, she worked as a multi-state lobbyist representing primary wholesale pharmaceutical distributors as well as served as Director of state legislative and regulatory advocacy for another health-related professional association.
 

Matt DiLoreto, Senior Director State Government Affairs, NCPA

Matthew DiLoreto is the Senior Director of State Government Affairs at the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA). In his role at NCPA, Mr. DiLoreto coordinates with state and federal partners to advance community pharmacy initiatives at the state and federal levels and represents NCPA’s interest in all states across the nation. Mr. DiLoreto’s efforts have largely focused on promoting reforms over the Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) and retail pharmacy marketplace.
