Title: Saving Time & Saving Lives: Rapid Reversal of Oral Anticoagulants (New and Old)

Rapid anticoagulant reversal is warranted during life threatening bleeding or emergent surgery. Since reversal strategies vary in safety, onset, duration, and cost, it is recommended to have a plan in place so you are ready when this kind of emergency arises. This one hour webinar will equip pharmacists with the expertise needed to develop local protocols to promote the safe and effective use of reversal agents during life threatening situations relating to warfarin and the direct acting oral anticoagulants.

Van Hellerslia, PharmD, BCPS, CACP, Clinical Assistant Professor, Temple University School of Pharmacy

Dr. Hellerslia graduated from the University of the Sciences and completed a pharmacy practice residency at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in 2002. She has assumed various clinical leadership positions at local hospitals. For the past 7 years, she served as the Anticoagulation Specialist and Coordinator at Abington Health where she provided expertise to hematology, neurology, cardiology and surgery services in regards to thrombosis and hemostasis management. She is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor at Temple University School of Pharmacy and serves as the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in the Neuro ICU at Temple University Health System.

Dr. Hellerslia has, in the past year, served as a paid consultant to Boehringer Ingelheim. However, her services were unrelated to the topic of this presentation and her role at Temple. Dr. Hellerslia has committed to presenting a program that is free of bias and influence.
