Join LVPA members and non-members for an informational dinner program sponsored by Value Drug Company followed by the CE program, "Addressing Opioid Abuse and Addiction" on Tuesday, May 16th at Melt in Center Valley!

 

This event is free to LVPA Members.  Non-members will be charged a $10 fee.

 

Schedule:

6:30 PM - Registration Opens

7:00 PM - Value Drug sponsored dinner and presentation. Sherrie O'Donald, Value Drug Company, who will speak briefly on how the wholesaler places themselves in this current epidemic of controlled substance use, focusing on interactions with customers and DEA.  A special menu will be provided for attendees to choose upon arrival and a full open bar is available.

Addressing Opioid Abuse and Addiction

 

Presenter: Howard C. Cook, Jr, RPh, BCNSP, FASHP, Clinical Consultants

 

Howard has extensive experience in inpatient clinical pharmacy, home infusion pharmacy, medical affairs in the pharmaceutical industry, and community pharmacy practice.  He piloted and implemented patient-focused pharmaceutical care programs that place pharmacy staff at the patient's bedside, presented ACPE-approved continuing education programs on cancer pain and symptom management, clinical nutrition and its application in the Pharmacy Department, and has designed specialty rotations in Clinical Nutrition for non-traditional Doctor of Pharmacy programs.  As the network Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator, he oversaw formulary development for a four-hospital health system.  As a member of the Medical Affairs Team at Bristol Myers Squibb Company, he was responsible for developing the US Medical Plan for a $7 billion cardiovascular pharmaceutical product.  He is a Board-Certified Nutrition Support Pharmacist, a Fellow of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, and the President-Elect of the Lehigh Valley Pharmacists Association.

 

Program Objectives for Pharmacists: At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

 

1. List the current Guidelines available from various allied health care provider organizations

2. Recognize key elements from each of the available Guidelines

3. Describe the clinical and legal responsibilities of the pharmacist in dispensing controlled substances

4. Utilize the Guidelines to create best practices in a variety of practice settings

5. Employ the multiple resources available on the PPA website to enhance understanding of the opioid crisis in Pennsylvania and what steps can be used to combat it

 

Program Objectives for Pharmacy Technicians: At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

1. List the current Guidelines available from various allied health care provider organizations

2. Recognize key elements from each of the available Guidelines

3. Employ the multiple resources available on the PPA website to enhance understanding of the opioid crisis in Pennsylvania and what steps can be used to combat it

Requirements to receive CE credit: Participants must be present for the entire program, sign the sign-in sheet, and complete an online evaluation survey within one week. PPA must have your CPE Monitor ID and birthday on file to issue credit.
