Student Programs


Students attending the conference will be able to participate in several hours of student programming each day, as well as sit in on any continuing education programs, meetings, forums, and other events included in the conference schedule.

PPA plans a variety of programs designed with students in mind.

PPA’s Government Relations Manager Don Smith will review our plans for the year ahead and how you as a student can speak out for pharmacy!  He will explain how you can GRASP the opportunity and become a real advocate for pharmacy!

Making the Most of PPA’s Conferences
Ashley Robbins, PPA’s Membership Coordinator and student program developer, will provide an overview of the ins and outs of a PPA Conference.  What’s good etiquette, how you can maximize your networking skills, making lasting connections for your pharmacy career, and more.  While geared especially for new comers, returning attendees will learn valuable hints as well.  

Patient Care Toolkits – Helping You and Your Patients
PPA’s Mentor Collaborative developed some helpful patient care toolkits which we want to encourage students to use, promote, and refer to as needed.  Dr. Kim Ference will walk you through some of the features of these toolkits!

Pennsylvania Pharmacists Care Network
PPCN’s Executive Manager, Dr. Mindy Kozminski will tell you about PPA’s exciting initiative to advance pharmacist provided patient care and our amazing progress to-date.

Residency 101
Considering a Residency? Not sure if you want to do a Residency? This session is perfect for any student, no matter what your professional year, who is evaluating whether or not to do a residency. Dr. Robert Maher will discuss the ins and outs of Residencies in this informative session discussing the whys, whats, and hows of Residency.

Become a Naloxone Ambassador in Your Pharmacy
Dr. George Downs, Philadelphia College of Pharmacy Professor and Dean Emeritus, will lead a hands on Naloxone training to better prepare you to handle an overdose situation, as well as prepare you to be a Naloxone ambassador in your pharmacy.

Interviewing – What You Need to Know?
Go to your interviews prepared. Professional Recruiters for Rite Aid, Matt Walker and Donna Hazel, will discuss interviewing, hiring, and what you need to know to be prepared for an interviewing.

 

RESIDENCY SHOWCASE PREP: Being Prepared for a Residency Showcase
This session is designed to help students be better  prepared for any Residency Showcase, including the PPA Residency Showcase, which will begin immediately following this session, as well as the ASHP Mid-Year Residency Showcase coming later this fall. Find out - What questions should you ask? How do you start a conversation with someone who has a lot of people around them? How do you sell yourself in 30 seconds? Dr. Vicky Shah will answer all of these questions, and more! Be a showcase standout!

Embark on a successful Pharmacy Career without doing a Residency
Not planning on a residency? Not sure a residency is for you? PPA has put together panel of three pharmacists with different backgrounds in pharmacy to discuss your options on building a successful pharmacy career from their individual and different perspectives, including chain management, independent ownership, and a health system practice. The panel will consist of John DeJames, Kathryn Grandizio-Stephens, and Alysha Lopez.

Achieving Independence is student competition designed to foster the budding entrepreneurial spirit among pharmacy students to one day own their own pharmacy!  The program was developed in 2009 as a way to encourage creativity and interest in pharmacy ownership.

Residency Showcase

PPA's Residency Showcase is an opportunity for students to meet with representatives from residency programs from across Pennsylvania and nearby states. Last year's Residency Showcase had over 50 programs represented and more than 150 students in attendance!

 

The Residency Showcase is open to all pharmacy students. Showcase registration is included in conference registration packages. Those not attending the rest of the Annual Conference can register for only the showcase. Registration is free for PPA members and $20 for non-members.
