Below is a list of programs available for obtaining certifications related to asthma care and education along with information on other training and CE opportunities.
Advanced Training Programs and Certifications
Asthma Clinical Pharmacy Certificate Program
This course utilizes case scenarios and video demonstrations through a web-based design. The pharmacist acquires practice in adjusting pharmacotherapeutic asthma regimens, counseling patients on tobacco cessation, and improving inhaler device technique in order to optimize treatment regimens for patients with asthma.
American Lung Association Asthma Educator Institute
This is a two-day preparatory course for those qualified to take the National Asthma Educator Certification Board (NAECB) examination. The curriculum covers the content outlined in the NAECB Candidate Handbook and includes case reviews, hands-on skills demonstration and practice.
Certified Asthma Educator (AE-C)
The National Asthma Educator Certification Board (NAECB) provides the Certified Asthma Educator (AE-C) examination, which is nationally recognized as the preeminent certification for asthma educators. Pharmacists are eligible to sit for and become certified through examination by providing direct patient asthma education, counseling or coordinating services with a minimum of 1000 hours experience in these activities.

American Pharmacists Association
In Addition to advanced training programs and certificate programs that may offer large continuing education units, APhA offers a variety of home-study modules and programs. The website allows the user to type in the content area and search for currently offered programs by content area.
Medscape is a part of WebMD Health Professional Network that includes theHeart.org and eMedicine.com. Medscape offers a website that links to the most current cardiology CE and education available.
Pharmacist’s Letter is a subscription service for pharmacists covering new developments in drug therapy and trends in pharmacy practice. The service consists of a monthly letter as well as a variety of continuing education resources. The website allows the user to browse continuing education by category.
Postgraduate Healthcare Education, LLC ("PHE") provides Power-Pak C.E.® educational programs for the broad spectrum of healthcare professions. The primary goal of the education programs is to provide and disseminate topical education to all medical personnel and pharmacists in order to maintain and improve their knowledge and skill.
