Pharmacists…Advancing patient care
To foster research, education, and the development of practice models that advance patient care
Strategic Plan 2014 - 2017
The Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association Educational Foundation was established in 1997 as a 501(c)(3) charitable and public foundation. In its early years, the foundation provided scholarships to pharmacy students through an application process. One of the scholarships, established in 1998, was named the Wellington Daubert scholarship, after a Schuylkill County pharmacist. Because of decreasing fund amounts, the scholarships were suspended in 2003.
The Foundation has also provided funds for speaker honorariums, speaker expenses, and to bring in nationally accredited programs such as NIPCO. It has also provided support for the Student Rainforest Fund.
In 2009, the Foundation underwent a process to revamp its focus and mission. A new Board was elected, by-laws were updated, new initiatives for awareness were explored and implemented, and major funding sources were investigated. A new direction of offering pharmacy practice enhancement based on mini-grants was begun. The Foundation’s Board of Directors completed its first round of mini grants in 2010 and continues this program today.
The Educational Foundation also spawned the idea for the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Care Network, a statewide collaborative network of pharmacists joined together to improve the practice of pharmacy across the state through the provision of advanced patient care activities.
The Foundation supports a pain management competition at the annual PPA meeting, the mini grants annually, as well as a poster competition for pharmacy students that garners participation from many pharmacy students statewide.
Today, the Foundation continues its work to advance patient care by fostering research, education, and the development of practice models that advance patient care. Tax-deductible gifts from generous donors help to make this work possible.
