Travel health services are a growing practice among community pharmacists as well as pharmacists practicing in a variety of settings. Services and centers are designed to provide patient care to travelers including immunizations, medicines, and advice on health care related needs while traveling. The resources below can help guide you on resources for pre-travel patient care as well as educational information to become proficient in travel health services.
Advanced Training Programs
Pharmacy Based Travel Health Services (APhA)
This is an interactive program that explores the pharmacist’s role in providing travel health services to patients. It is application-based for pharmacists interested in learning how to successfully provide travel health services.
International Travel Medicine Certification & Training (Travel Care)
This is an ACPE accredited continuing education program in International Travel Medicine. The program trains pharmacists to provide expert advice and medical services to travelers.
Certificate of Travel Health (ISTM)
The International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM) offers both a certified travel health certificate (CTH) through examination as well as a mandatory maintenance process every ten (10) years to keep the certificate active. Maintaining CTH occurs through either accruing a specific number of credits through the professional development activities or retaking and passing the CTH© examination.
On-line CE courses
CDC offers free CE courses through the Training and Continuing Education Online website on a variety of topics related to travel medicine.

These systems allow the pharmacist to input patient data and produce reports for travel health needs as well as educational templates and resources for use with patient appointments. There is a fee associated with the use and licensing of each system.
