|Info on PREP for Residency Program Directors|
We know how crazy each July and the immediate months afterwards are - you have a new resident (or maybe more than one!) and you are starting all over again!
Make it a little easier on yourself and give your residents a tool to help accelerate their learning and comprehension and be better prepared for all the various areas of their residency.
PPA has created PREP, a self-directed program, designed especially for residents to help them develop and hone the skills they will need and use in a residency program. We all know they graduated from pharmacy school with certain expectations and thinking they were ready to set the world on fire; but, in reality, many still have a lot to learn. Sure you can spend hours teaching them everything - or you can have them do PREP and then augment it with your own expertise and guidance. Unless you are planning to be with them 24/7 and put your own life on hold - you need some help!
The PREP Recorded Webinar Series consists of a series of modules each focusing on a specific area designed to help individuals be an Excellent resident. Key topic areas include:
All modules are optional and residents can listen and watch any or
all, at their own pace and at their convenience. Or when they need it
most! Most modules are broken into a few 20-30 minute "bite-sized" videos to allow maximum flexibility.
Residents can test their knowledge on a topic before and after a module to measure their growth, and engage in discussion with faculty and other incoming residents on an online forum.

The Top Five Reasons to Encourage or Enroll Your Resident in PREP!
5. It's a great program developed and presented by those who know residencies in Pennsylvania.
4. I want my resident to succeed, learn, and grow.
"As a newly minted PGY1 resident, practicing as a licensed practitioner can be a very nervous but exciting time. The PREP program offer invaluable tools and resources to help a pharmacy resident not only prepare for the challenges of residency, but also provides guidance and skills for resident to excel throughout the course of the year."
Benjamin Andrick, PharmD
Augusta University Medical Center/University of Georgia College of Pharmacy
"Adjusting to resident life and the workload can be a bit overwhelming. The PREP program equipped me with knowledge and skills to hit the ground running on day one of residency and get the most out of the experience."
Brandon Antinopoulos, PharmD
2014 Community Practice Resident
University of Pittsburgh/Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association/University Pharmacy
Current Role: Pharmacy Manager, Hometown Apothecary Drugs
"I think the greatest value of the PREP program for me was being able to discuss and prepare for some of the biggest challenges that residents typically face (e.g. time management, research, information mastery, etc.) in advance of starting my residency so that I already had some background knowledge and tools to reference on Day One."
Gale Garmong, PharmD
University of Pittsburgh/Rite Aid Pharmacy
Current Role: Clinical/Staff Pharmacist, Klingensmith’s Drug Store
