Rachel von Vital, Student Director - East
Temple University, PharmD Candidate 2017
1. Why did you decide to run to be a part of the Student Advisory Board?
I wanted to get more involved in advocating for my profession. I believe
pharmacists are vital members of the healthcare team, with expertise in
not only medication and disease state management, but in patient in
interaction as well. Pharmacists practicing in a variety of settings have the
opportunity to inspire change in the way healthcare is managed in their
communities, cities, and states. I believe that the increased utilization of
pharmacists is a key component to improving healthcare outcomes in our country.
2. What are you most looking forward to accomplishing during your term?
I would like the pharmacy schools on the eastern side of the state to work together to educate their respective cities on what it means to be a pharmacist. We need to inform the public about the benefits of having a pharmacotherapy specialist on their healthcare team. By educating the voters about our profession, we can positively influence the way in which healthcare is managed in our cities.
3. Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself working as a PharmD, possibly board certified in ambulatory care or pharmacotherapy, and working in some type of clinical setting. I do not know exactly which field I plan on practicing in yet, but I know that I enjoy patient interaction. I find experiences with patients to be very rewarding.
4. What activities are you currently involved in?
I was very involved this past year in school and helped organize events for several organizations including ASCH, Phi Delta Chi Fraternity, and APhA. My fourth year is now just beginning so PPA is my focus at the moment.
5. What do you do in your free time?
I like to relax whenever I get the chance. Juggling all of my responsibilities can be exhausting at times so when I have a night off, I like to rest. I also try to exercise and stay healthy. It relieves my stress and gives me the energy I need to get through the week.
6. If you could have dinner with anyone (alive/dead, real/fake, ect.) who would it be and why?
That is a tough one! There are so many amazing people to choose from, but I have always found Leonardo Da Vinci to be a very interesting historical figure. He was a master of both art and science and used his appreciation for life to advance the era in which he lived. I admire anyone who uses their intellect and imagination to make life better for the people around them.
