Your Future Starts Now ...
Get Involved in PPA!

Fifth and Sixth year pharmacy students, who are PPA Members, are invited to participate as a student committee monitor for one of PPA’s committees.  This is your chance to really begin your professional involvement!

What’s Involved?  PPA Student Members, in their 5th or 6th year, may sign up for one committee which they would be interested in monitoring during the course of the next year. As a monitor, they would not be required to attend meetings, as this might be difficult with class schedules. Instead, they would receive meeting agendas and minutes by email. Students would be encouraged to submit ideas and feedback both before and after meetings.

Students would be more than welcome to attend any committee meeting they could.  Some committee meetings are held in conjunction with PPA’s Annual and Mid-year meeting and students who are already attending these meetings could easily participate in the committee meetings which are held at that time.

Committees are typically fully appointed in June for the next fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).  However, student monitors will be added anytime during the fall.

PPA regrets that we are unable to reimburse our students for your expenses to be involved in committee meetings but hopes that you will find value in the interaction with PPA members and consider the time well spent.  Since most of the business will be conducted via email, there should be little expected expense, except if you physically attend any meeting.  PPA volunteers find they receive rich personal and professional satisfaction for their service.

The following is a list of PPA’s Standing Committees and their responsibilities.

Committee on Constitution and Bylaws – reviews the PPA bylaws, proposes changes and updates, and ensures the bylaws are followed.

Committee on Education – plans the continuing education programs for the Annual and Mid-Year meetings and explores other potential educational opportunities for members.

Committee on Finance – oversees the financial administration of the association and develops the annual budget.

Committee on Membership – recruits and retains members in all categories of membership from all practice settings of pharmacy.

Committee on Professional Practice – works to enhance the image of the pharmacist as a healthcare professional through creation and promotion of standards of practice.  Recommends positions on various practices and procedures within pharmacy.

Committee on Public Relations – develops and coordinates programs and activities promoting pharmacists and a positive image to our various publics.  Creates public awareness campaigns and information for the public.

Committee on Third Party and Legislation – monitors the regulatory and legislative issues concerning pharmacy and pharmacists, develops for approval the legislative priorities for PPA, establishes positions on appropriate bills, and works with the Executive Director to coordinate grass roots efforts and responses when applicable.

Awards Committee – selects the recipients for the awards PPA annually presents.

Meetings and Conference Committee – develops program, functions, and budget for this Annual and Mid-Year Meetings.

Crime Prevention – works to prevent crime against pharmacists and increase awareness of self-protection and reporting.  Liaisons with the Pennsylvania office of the Attorney General.
