The New Practitioners Guide to Dispensing Opioids during the Misuse Epidemic

 

Specially designed for new pharmacists in Pennsylvania, this program will provide a foundation for ensuring that you are doing your part in helping to end prescription opioid misuse. We will begin to understand our role in the misuse epidemic by looking at national and local trends of opioid misuse followed by a discussion of requirements for pharmacists in Pennsylvania. Resources to assist with ensuring safe dispensing and prescribing practices will be provided.

Bethany Abrahams, PharmD, PGY1 Community Pharmacy Resident, ACME Sav-on Pharmacy, University of the Sciences

Bethany Abrahams is a PGY1 Community Pharmacy Resident with ACME Sav-on Pharmacy. Her residency year is focused on safe and effective medication management as well as ways to better integrate caregivers in the medication use process. She is the 2017 winner of the APhA-ASP National Patient Counseling Competition. Having received her Pharm.D. from Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions in 2017, she has recently relocated to Pennsylvania and is excited be getting involved with PPA!

Program Objectives:

At the completion of this activity, the participant will be able to
1. To analyze and compare trends of opioid misuse across the nation and in Pennsylvania.
2. To discuss the Achieving Better Care by Monitoring All Prescriptions Program Act (ABC-MAP) as it pertains to pharmacy practice in the state of Pennsylvania.
3. To identify and demonstrate the use of resources available to assist pharmacists in the dispensing of medications commonly misused.
4. To illustrate prescribing patterns that are indicative of prescription misuse.

   *Requests for cancellation refunds must be submitted to PPA at least one day in advance of the webinar. All refunds will be subject to a $5 administrative fee.

Requirements to receive credit: Participants must attend the entire program and complete an online evaluation survey within one week. PPA must have your CPE Monitor ID and birthday on file to issue credit.
