Quieting Down Opioid Prescribing

Over the last 20 years, opioids have been overprescribed to the point where both opioid prescriptions and opioid related deaths have quadrupled. Despite high opioid use, some patients continue to suffer and experience decreased functionality from pain. Patients who continue to have a poor quality of life despite opioid therapy should have opioids discontinued. This session will provide guidance on de-escalation techniques for opioid de-prescribing while providing information on alternative agents that can be used for pain control.
