Navigating Safely Through Uncharted Waters: Overcoming the Challenges of Oral Oncolytic Therapies with a
Specialized Crew

The concentrated development of oral oncolytic therapies available to patients with cancer have steered pharmacist towards unique challenges.  Unlike chemotherapy administered by infusion, there is little available literature describing best practice for checking oral oncolytic agents. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss the implementation of an oral oncolytic taskforce, in the retail and ambulatory setting, as a method to enhance medication safety, improve vigilance of these high alert medications, and discuss a real world experience to the challenges associated when dispensing oral oncolytic agents.
