Title: Establishing an Effective Experiential Rotation when Precepting Student Pharmacists in a Community Pharmacy Setting

Serving as a preceptor to student pharmacists on an experiential rotation can be a professionally rewarding experience as it provides the opportunity to shape future pharmacists.  However, it can be a challenging task to incorporate student pharmacists into the community practice setting while providing them with an experience that also fulfills their curriculum requirements.  This program will provide community pharmacists with the tools necessary to serve as an effective preceptor and establish an effective experiential rotation.  Topics reviewed will include the 4 preceptor roles, creating a rotation syllabus and calendar, incorporating student pharmacists into practice site responsibilities, and delivering valuable feedback.

Angelo J. Greco, PharmD, Clinical Administrative Pharmacist and Adjunct Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Duquesne University, Mylan School of Pharmacy and Giant Eagle Pharmacy

Dr. Angelo J. Greco received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy in 2007.  Prior to joining Duquesne and Giant Eagle Pharmacy, he completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice residency at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA and PGY2 Community Pharmacy and Academia residency at the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy and Kerr Drug in Chapel Hill, NC.  Dr. Greco practices as a clinical pharmacist at Giant Eagle Pharmacy delivering patient care services such as medication therapy management (MTM), immunization delivery, diabetes education, and wellness screenings.  He serves as director of the Duquesne University and Giant Eagle Community Pharmacy Residency Program and as preceptor to student pharmacists taking his advanced community pharmacy experiential rotation.  His research interests focus on implementing clinical services in the community pharmacy setting, delivering medication therapy management, and pharmacogenomics.
