The purpose of this presentation is to discuss the implementation of an oral oncolytic taskforce, in the retail and ambulatory setting, as a method to enhance medication safety, improve vigilance of these high alert medications, and discuss a real world experience to the challenges associated when dispensing oral oncolytic agents.

A Guide to Individualized Vaccination Needs of Oncology Patients

*Also listed with Immunization topics

As the US and worldwide incidence of cancer increases, the likelihood of a pharmacist caring for patients whom have or had cancer is very high. Often, vaccinations are overlooked due to the perceived “complexity” of oncology care and lack of knowledge in managing this populations vaccination needs. As cancer patients and survivors live longer, vaccination needs of this population need to be addressed not only for short term infection protection, but for building lifelong immunity. This program acts as a primer for all pharmacists on the guidelines, evidence, and recommendations for vaccinating this population. By the end of the presentation, the pharmacist will be able to assess, evaluate and develop individualized vaccination schedules for oncology patients encountered in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.  Of note the first 30-40 minutes will focus on patients with solid/hematological malignancies and the remaining 20min will focus on hematopoietic transplant patients.

Target Audience: Pharmacists practicing in community setting as well as hospital setting (inpatient/outpatient) who longitudinally care for oncology patients
