The Special Interest Group or SIG for Independent Owners is a funding program available to members of the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association interested in protecting and advocating on behalf of the independent pharmacy owners in Pennsylvania.

The SIG Contribution Amount is: $50.00 a month; $600.00 a year.  Payment includes one Active Membership in the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association ($250.00 a year). The remaining balance of the $600 is placed in the SIG program and used to fund special programs and initiatives to benefit independent pharmacy owners.

Participating pharmacies can elect to make this payment directly through PPA or may have payments submitted through regular monthly contributions on the invoice of their wholesaler, if they are a participating wholesaler.  Value Drug is the only current participating group. Value directly does the monthly billing the SIG dues on your wholesale invoice and then remits the payments to PPA. This is an easy and simple way to pay your PPA dues while also supporting independent pharmacy.

The money collected for SIG is kept in an entirely different and separate account from PPA. Money utilized from the account only supports the interests of independent pharmacy and is only utilized on programs or services approved by the SIG participants.

Leadership and Meetings

SIG meetings are held as needed and usually in conjunction with the PPA Mid-Year and/or Annual Conferences. All members of SIG are invited to participate in these meetings and submit program or project ideas which benefit independent pharmacy.

The following is a list of ways SIG money has been or is being utilized:

  • Providing funding for the Student NCPA Conference Grants
  • Providing funding for the Student buses for Legislative Day and/or Conferences
  • Encouraging student interest in independent ownership through speakers and programs

Additionally, the following potential areas of support are possibilities and have been done in the past:

  • Legal Issues
  • Lobbying expenses
  • Public awareness of pharmacy issues
  • Third Party issues
  • Information/programs increasing bottom line profits
