Community Pharmacy Accreditation

The Center for Community Pharmacy Accreditation, a collaboration between the American Pharmacists Association and the National Boards of Pharmacy, released its community pharmacy accreditation standards for public comment in August 2012. In addition, a health care accreditation organization called URAC also released its community pharmacy accreditation standards for public comment in August. Though PPA recognizes the value of any effort to increases patients' quality of care, PPA does not share these organizations' belief that accreditation of community pharmacies is the appropriate method for doing so at this time and without providing incentive payments for pharmacies. PPA has been active in providing input to these efforts through formal comments in opposition to both sets of standards. PPA also has created an issue brief discussing the issue, which includes important talking points.

Implementing Electronic Prescribing/Dispensing – Q & A

Hotline for Eprescribing for Independent Pharmacies

This Surescripts hotline is dedicated to assisting independent community pharmacies in their use of eprescribing.  It is managed by a certified, experienced pharmacy technician. Developed in conjunction with NCPA, the Independent Pharmacy Line (IPL) connects independent pharmacists directly to a live resource for help in assessing, triaging, and addressing questions or issues related to their e-prescribing experience. The IPL is not intended to replace the support pharmacists get from their pharmacy system vendor, Surescripts said. It has been set up to help address critical, urgent, or persistent issues as a supplement to pharmacy system vendor support. The IPL provides three ways to access direct assistance:
