Meet Your Advisory Board

Shannon Haberman, Recording Secretary

LECOM, PharmD Candidate 2019

1. Why did you decide to run to be a part of the Student Advisory Board?

Over the past two years, I have been honored to be involved with PPA.  I started by applying online for my membership and then continued by going to Legislative day during my first year. I knew I wanted to continue my involvement, so I ran for the Government Relations Ambassador and held that position during my second year.  I also was able to go to the annual conference which opened me up to so many appealing opportunities like community residencies. Then when I went to the midyear conference, I was able to compete in the OTC Medication and Self-Care competition and present my research. When the opportunity to run the SAB came up, I was excited to continue to have a role in PPA.

2. What are you most looking forward to accomplishing during your term?

I am very excited to be a part of the board and cannot wait to work as a team to promote the many exciting opportunities.  I am looking forward to working with my peers to unify the schools in PA.  I have learned so much from my peers and think that as a state we will be able to accomplish so many great things. I am very interested in fundraising especially when the building fund is in such need so I am hopeful that our team will be successful in raising the money for the student section of the building.

3. Where do you see yourself in five years?

There are so many options in the pharmacy world that I do not know exactly where I will end up but in 5 years I would like to be working a few days a week as a staff pharmacist whether it is in a retail pharmacy or a doctor’s office and teaching the rest of the work week. I also love research so being able to continue to take part in research and get my future students passionate about the topic is what I look forward to.

4. What activities are you currently involved in?

Being involved in campus and pharmacy related activities is very rewarding.  I was the LECOM Government Relations Ambassador last year.  I am the chapter president of LECOM Erie APhA-ASP and then will transition this year to the past president. In the student government association, I am the webmaster, so I maintain the website, send out weekly newsletters, manage the election of the student pharmacist of the month, and a few other tasks throughout the year. I am a LECOM student ambassador, so I give tours to prospective students. I also am involved in Phi Lambda Sigma.

5. What do you do in your free time?

I love to explore in my free time especially outdoors so hiking and swimming are my favorite.  I swam all through college so swimming laps is my favorite stress reliever.  I also love to craft which consists of multiple different projects but my main one is counted cross stitch. Most importantly, I spend any chance I get with my family, especially my niece who keeps us very busy!

6. If you could have dinner with anyone (alive/dead, real/fake, ect.) who would it be and why?

I have always enjoyed eating dinner with my family and it was what I missed most about leaving home.  So I would pick my niece because every time I get to eat with her, I get to learn more about her. Her pure joy and innocence is infectious and spending time with her is the best reminder of the important things in life: people.  The way she can bring a smile to everyone’s face (including mine) is pure magic and I am thrilled that I get to see her grown up while I look forward to every dinner I get to share with her.
