PPA has an array of committees, advisory boards and work groups that serve to advance the association’s mission and strategic priorities. See the full list of current opportunities below and click on the titles to learn more.
Benefits of Volunteering. Adding your volunteer experience to your resume or CV can be a smart and strategic move to gain needed professional experience and demonstrate your commitment to professional and personal development. Additional benefits to volunteering include:
- Professional Development – Serving as a volunteer in an organization demonstrates that you possess knowledge and experience specific to your field. It enables you to build your personal brand while also increasing your value as a professional.
- Personal and Professional Growth – While volunteering you can learn transferable skills and gain expertise outside of your current skill set.
- Networking – Volunteering exposes you to people you may not meet otherwise, allowing you to network with a more diverse group of like-minded individuals.
Time Commitment. Meetings are sometimes held in conjunction with the Association’s Annual Conference, but most are usually done via conference calls and generally limited to about one hour. Committee membership is can be p to three years, but can be shorter or longer depending on volunteer circumstances or committee needs. Committee members will be asked on an annual basis to confirm their willingness to continue to serve. Tasks forces and workgroups typically have a finite scope of work that defines the intensity and duration of that work.
Communications. Email is the primary communication vehicle for scheduling meetings, distributing agendas and minutes and connecting between committee/task force/workgroup meetings. It is critical that committee members use an email address that they regularly access to stay abreast of committee expectations and development.
Getting involved – PPA will conduct an open call for committee members using a standard application process to collect information about you, your interests, your skills sets and your resume. Applications will be reviewed by staff and committee chairs (appointed by the PPA President).
Expenses. The PPA regrets that we are unable to reimburse our volunteers for your travel expenses while involved in committee meetings but hopes that you will find value in the interaction with your peers during the meeting and consider the time well spent. Since most of our work is done via PPA hosted virtual sessions, you should not incur much in the way of expense. PPA volunteers find they receive rich personal and professional satisfaction for their service as well as a side benefit of staying informed on issues and practice developments and connecting with fellow volunteers.
