George S. Maggio Memorial Award

Presented to the pharmacist who has contributed the most to pharmacy in Pennsylvania through his/her work in legislative activities and advocacy.

This Year's Recipient

Ron McDermott, RPh

Ron McDermott, RPh, received his pharmacy degree from Duquesne University School of Pharmacy in 1995. He is currently the Senior Vice President of Pharmacy Operations of the Hometown Pharmacy Solutions. He has spent countless hours educating legislators about the importance of community pharmacy and advocating for truly transparent reimbursement that mirrors the invaluable role community pharmacists play in their practice settings. He was extremely instrumental in bringing these issues to a much larger audience including Eugene DePasquale, Pennsylvania’s Auditor General. Through those efforts and others, this recipient has helped to expose the practice of spread pricing by Pharmacy Benefit Managers within the Pennsylvania Medicaid Program. He has also hosted numerous legislators from Western Pennsylvania at many of his pharmacy’s locations to not only explain the intricacies of pharmacy reimbursement; but also to give them a first-hand view of the personal relationships formed between community pharmacists and their patients.
